Overview
2007 saw the return of conflict in the Agadez region of northern Niger, bordering Concern Worldwide’s area of operation in Tahoua region.
Lack of access to food and chronic malnutrition are common in this region; as a result, we continue to focus on our community therapeutic care (CTC) nutrition programme.
Dealing with malnutrition
Through our community therapeutic care programme we’re supporting 13 rural clinics, reaching 280,000 people. We worked closely with the government on both primary education and health – particularly on integrating community therapeutic care into Ministry of Health programmes.
Improving health services
We are also developing a new public health programme, which aims to reduce maternal and child mortality. Increasing access to public health resources and helping to improve the quality of health services are a major part of this.
Teachers and students
31,722 children have benefited from our education work. We work with the Ministry of Education and other partners to improve Niger’s education system. We have also helped train 1,363 teachers and 1,656 school management committee members.
More achievements in Niger:
- Concern is also helping the government develop health policy and community therapeutic care programmes
- We have also entered a local consortium, working on reducing potential risks of future natural disasters
