Increase the value of your donations by almost a third with Gift Aid. By simply making a Gift Aid declaration today, supporters can help Concern reclaim thousands of pounds from the Inland Revenue for free. Just imagine the incredible difference this extra funding could make to the people who live in the developing countries where we work.
The Government Gift Aid scheme means that if you are a UK taxpayer, for every pound that you have donated since 6th April 2000, we can claim an extra 28p from the Inland Revenue, and it doesn't cost you a penny. To Gift Aid your previous donations, and any donations you may make to us in the future, all you have to do is fill in our online form.
How do I know if I'm a UK taxpayer?
You are a UK taxpayer if:
- Tax is taken from your wages or salary before you receive your pay.
- You pay tax under self assessment.
- You have any taxable savings (in a Building Society, for instance) or a pension plan, or investment income.
- If you have recently paid any Capital Gains Tax or expect to pay it in the near future. This could be on the sale of a property or some shares, for example.
How much tax must I pay to be able to take part in Gift Aid?
- You can join the Gift Aid scheme if you are a tax payer at the basic or higher tax rate.
- Lower rate tax payers (10% including those paying tax on investment income) can also join.
- If you pay Capital Gains tax, you can Gift Aid your donations to Concern. Capital gains tax is applied to unearned income such as interest from savings.
- Remember, to qualify for Gift Aid, what you pay in income tax or capital gains tax must equal the amount we claim from the Inland Revenue in any given year.
What if I am a higher rate taxpayer?
Concern can only reclaim tax at the basic rate of 22%, whether you pay tax at the basic rate OR the higher rate of 40%. If you are a higher rate taxpayer you can claim back the difference between the higher and basic rates of tax on your donations on your self assessment form.
In addition, as a self assessed tax payer, you can now nominate Concern to receive your repayments as a donation, simply by entering this Unique Code on to your form: DAD67DG.
I am a pensioner. Am I still eligible for Gift Aid?
As a pensioner, you may still pay tax on a private pension plan or savings account, or Capital Gains tax if you sell property or shares. If this is the case, we can still claim Gift Aid on your donations.
What if my tax status changes?
Please let us know if your tax status changes so we can change our record and make sure we are collecting the correct tax back for your donations. Please call the Concern Supporter Services team on 0800 032 4002 or e-mail enquiries.info@concern.net.
What if I don't pay UK tax?
To ensure we don't keep asking you to Gift Aid your donations, it is useful for us to know if you are not a tax payer. Please let us know if you don't pay tax by calling 0800 032 4002 or e-mail enquiries.info@concern.net.
My tax rate is personal, will this information remain confidential?
Yes. Your details are confidential to Concern and the Inland Revenue. We will not share this information with anyone else.
Do I need to disclose my earnings?
No.
If I register for Gift Aid am I committed to giving money?
Absolutely not. It just means that if you do give any amount to Concern in the future, we can claim an extra 28% back from the Inland Revenue.
What if I send my donations via CAF (The Charities Aid Foundation)?
If you make donations via CAF, tax has already been reclaimed. However, please fill in the Declaration form anyway so that any separate donations you might make to Concern can be tax effective as well.
