The golf classic that almost wasn't

St. Helen's Bay Golf Resort, Rosslare, once again played host to Concern's annual Wexford Golf Classic last Friday.

St. Helen's golf club

Despite some worrying rain showers in the morning, the wonderful management at St Helen’s Bay Golf Resort allowed the event to go ahead. Luckily, the weather cleared by mid-morning. Twenty two teams headed out on the course throughout the day.

Familiar faces

It was great to see many familiar faces back again to support this annual event. We were grateful to our many sponsors and benefactors, especially James and Sylvia O’Connor who were in attendance.

A raffle followed the prize-giving ceremony. Our thanks to all who donated prizes and those who supported the raffle.

Mozambique

All funds from the tournament will go towards Concern’s programmes in Mozambique, where Concern has been working since 1987.

Last year, Mozambique was hit with a number of natural disasters. More than 250,000 families were affected by flooding, while the south suffered its third drought in five years. In addition, Cyclone Favio destroyed the crops of more than 50,000 households. Not only has Concern responded to these disasters but are increasing emphasis on disaster risk reduction.
