Diversity and culture in Belfast

Imagine trying to paint a picture with just one colour? Or if the radio only played one song? What if you had to eat the same meal every day?

The world benefits from diversity; from more than one outlook on life.

As part of Concern’s commitment to Building Unity though Diversity, Concern Worldwide has brought the acclaimed outdoor 1000 Families photo exhibition to the grounds of City Hall, Belfast. The exhibition by photographer Uwe Ommer will run until 11 September.

It was launched on Saturday 30 August with a Family and Cultural Day in the grounds of the City Hall. A photographer was on hand taking photos to create Belfast’s family album - the photos will be made available on the website http://www.buildingunity.eu/

Families from all walks of life attended the event and took part in the activities on offer. These included musical entertainment and workshops, arts and craft sessions making kites and hats, Indian henna art, Chinese calligraphy, African poetry and story telling.

The Building Unity Through Diversity programme continues with lunchtime workshops in Belfast’s Linen Hall Library.

Everyone is welcome to attend our “Diversity and Equality in the Workplace” discussion on Tuesday 9 September.
